Maths

At Waterside Academy, our mathematics curriculum is designed to meet the diverse needs of all students, particularly those facing behavioural, emotional, or social challenges. Our goal is to provide an inclusive, engaging, and accessible maths education that equips students with the skills necessary for future success, both academically and in life.

Key Aims:

  • Confidence and Fluency: Using the White Rose Maths scheme, we build mathematical fluency in areas like number operations, algebra, and geometry, fostering confidence and proficiency.

  • Resilience and Problem-Solving: We encourage students to approach challenges with persistence, embedding reasoning and problem-solving into lessons to develop critical thinking.

  • Mastery Approach: Complex topics are broken down into manageable steps, ensuring all students achieve a deep understanding of key concepts.

  • Real-World Application: We emphasize the practical use of maths in everyday life and future careers, demonstrating its relevance beyond the classroom.

Meeting Individual Needs:

The curriculum is delivered flexibly, with personalized pacing, targeted interventions, and emotional support to meet each student’s needs. This approach, along with regular formative assessments, ensures that students are supported in their academic and personal development, preparing them for future education or employment.
